Lilies appear in frescoes in Crete dating from 1580 BC. They were the flowers of Hera, queen of the gods, and later of the Virgin Mary. They have been drawn, painted, carved, and given to people we love for longer than almost any other bloom.
White lilies say purity, reverence, and something that matters.
Stargazer lilies say abundance, prosperity, and ambition.
Orange lilies say I want you to feel the warmth I feel. Whatever colour you choose, know that you are participating in something very old and very human.
One practical thing: when your lilies open fully, you will see yellow pollen-covered stamens. Remove them carefully. It keeps the petals clean, prevents staining, and significantly extends the life of the blooms. A small act of care that rewards you considerably.
