Fresh Pink Peonies Delivered Across the UK — Sarah Bernhardt
Sarah Bernhardt is the world's most celebrated peony variety and Britain's most popular wedding flower. These are not supermarket stems — these are Grade A1, 55cm cut flowers sourced every working day, Monday to Friday, from the Dutch Flower Auctions through our specialist supplier
C.J. Vianen Flowers in Rijnsburg, Netherlands. The same supply chain that serves London's finest florists. Delivered to your door by Royal Mail Tracked, anywhere in the UK.
What Makes Sarah Bernhardt Special?
Named after the legendary 19th-century French actress, Sarah Bernhardt produces enormous fully double blooms in soft rose-pink — a colour that sits between blush and deep pink, shifting beautifully as each bloom opens over its vase life. The fragrance is exceptional: rich, sweet and heady, strong enough to fill a room from a single bouquet. Of all commercially grown peony varieties, Sarah Bernhardt has one of the most reliable and generous vase lives when properly cared for.
Our stems are supplied at 55cm — the full commercial length — and arrive in tight bud. This is correct and means they are at their freshest. They will open over 2 to 5 days at room temperature, giving you a bouquet that evolves and improves as the days pass.
What Shade of Pink Are These Peonies?
Sarah Bernhardt opens as a medium rose-pink and softens to a paler, more blush tone as the bloom fully opens. If you are looking for
pale pink peonies or
blush pink peonies, Sarah Bernhardt at full open is exactly that. If you want
baby pink peonies at their softest, request your stems in the tightest bud and let them open slowly in a cool room. For
bright pink peonies or
hot pink peonies, our Dr Alexander Fleming variety is the better choice — a deeper, more vivid cerise-pink. Contact us and we can advise based on what is best this week.
When Are Pink Peonies in Season?
European pink peonies are at their peak from
mid-April through to the end of July, with May and June being the finest weeks of the season. During peak season our Sarah Bernhardt comes from top Dutch growers including
Groot & Groot in Andijk — MPS certified since 2020, every stem hand-harvested — and
Delta Peony Plus on Goeree-Overflakkee, where Erika Mastenbroek personally inspects every stem before it leaves the farm.
Outside the European season, from August through to April, we source pink peonies from southern hemisphere growers in Chile and New Zealand, ensuring year-round availability at premium quality.
How to Care for Your Pink Peonies
- Remove all packaging and cut stems at a sharp 45-degree angle with a clean knife
- Place immediately in a clean vase of fresh lukewarm water with the flower food provided
- Remove any leaves below the waterline to prevent bacteria
- Keep away from direct sunlight, radiators and fruit bowls
- Change the water every two days and re-cut the stems each time
- To slow opening — keep in a cool room or place in the refrigerator overnight
- To speed opening — move to a warm, bright spot
With correct care your Sarah Bernhardt peonies will last
5 to 7 days in a vase. Our five-day freshness guarantee means if you are not completely satisfied, we send a replacement immediately — no questions asked.
Frequently Asked Questions — Pink Peonies
Where can I buy pink peonies in the UK?
Flowers by Flourish delivers fresh Grade A1 pink peonies to any UK address by Royal Mail Tracked next-day delivery. Order online at flowersbyflourish.com with delivery available Tuesday to Saturday.
How many pink peony stems do I need?
10 stems fills a standard vase generously and is our most popular size. 15 stems makes a truly abundant arrangement. 20 stems is ideal for large displays, splitting between two vases, or a wedding-style centrepiece. For bulk orders of 50 or 100 stems for weddings and events, email
enquiries@flowersbyflourish.com.
Are pink peonies available all year round?
Yes — European pink peonies are in season mid-April to July. Outside this window we source from Chile and New Zealand, meaning pink peonies are available year-round, though peak season stems from Holland are the finest available.
What is the difference between pale pink, blush and hot pink peonies?
Sarah Bernhardt (our main pink peony) ranges from medium rose-pink when first opening to soft blush-pink at full open — covering pale pink, light pink and blush tones in a single stem. For brighter, deeper pinks our Dr Alexander Fleming variety is the better choice.
Do pink peonies have a scent?
Yes — Sarah Bernhardt has one of the strongest and most beautiful fragrances of any cut flower. Rich, sweet and distinctly rosy. A 10-stem bouquet will fragrance an entire room.
Are your peonies sustainably grown?
Our key growers hold MPS certification — the Dutch floriculture industry's environmental assurance scheme covering pesticide use, energy, water and waste. Our supplier Vianen Flowers is a partner of the Flower Sustainability Initiative (FSI), committed to 90% sustainable range by 2025, and operates a geothermal WKO heating system and double-deck transport fleet that carries 77% more volume per trip — significantly reducing CO₂ per stem delivered.
Can I send pink peonies as a gift?
Yes — every order is gift-wrapped and can include a personalised message card. Simply add your message during checkout. We deliver to any UK address by Royal Mail Tracked, with the recipient receiving a tracking notification by email or text.

Pink Peonies for Every Occasion
Wedding peonies. Sarah Bernhardt is the single most-used peony in British weddings. Soft rose-pink tones work with almost every colour palette — white, ivory, sage green, dusty blue, burgundy, champagne. For bridal bouquets, table centrepieces, buttonholes and large-scale event floristry, order in advance and contact us to discuss your exact requirements. We supply wedding peony orders from 20 stems upwards.
Birthday pink peonies. A bouquet of pink peonies is one of the most memorable birthday gifts you can send. Their short European season makes them genuinely special — a gift that says you know flowers, not just flowers. Our gift-wrapped bouquets arrive with a personalised message card and Royal Mail Tracked delivery to any UK address.
Anniversary and romantic gifts. Pink peonies carry a long association with romance, prosperity and lasting love. A 15 or 20-stem bouquet of Sarah Bernhardt is a genuinely luxurious gift — comparable in impact to a premium luxury item at a fraction of the price.
Mother's Day. When the peony season aligns with Mother's Day, pink peonies are among the most gifted flowers in the UK. Place your order early — peak season stems sell quickly and we cannot always guarantee availability for last-minute orders.
New home and housewarming. Peonies symbolise good fortune and a happy home in multiple cultures. A generous vase of fresh pink peonies is the perfect way to mark someone's new chapter.
Pink Peonies vs Pink Roses — What Is the Difference?
Customers often ask whether peonies and roses are related. They are not — peonies belong to the genus
Paeonia while roses belong to
Rosa. The similarities are in form: both produce rounded, multi-petalled blooms in similar colour ranges. But peonies are larger, more lush, more fragrant, and far more seasonal — which is precisely what makes them special. If you receive a peony bouquet expecting roses, you will immediately understand why peonies command a premium. The bloom size of a fully open Sarah Bernhardt — up to 15cm across — is unlike anything a garden rose produces.
Why Buy Pink Peonies from Flowers by Flourish?
We are an independent specialist florist, not a supermarket and not a relay network. Every stem we sell is purchased fresh from the Dutch Flower Auctions every working day. We do not hold stock. When you order pink peonies from us, the stems you receive were at the auction within 24 to 48 hours of reaching your door — a freshness standard no supermarket, no high street florist and no large delivery network can match.
Our Grade A1 standard means we buy only the top tier of commercial stems — 55cm length, straight stems, clean foliage, tight buds. Grade A1 is what London's finest hotels and event florists specify. It is the only grade we sell.
And our five-day freshness guarantee is unconditional. If your peonies do not meet the standard we have described, contact us and we send a replacement immediately. No returns process. No lengthy complaints procedure. We fix it.
