European white peonies are at their peak from mid-April through to the end of July, with May and June the finest weeks of the year. During peak season our white peonies come from top Dutch growers whose farms C.J. Vianen's team personally visits to verify quality — meaning every stem has been assessed at grower level, not just at the auction floor.
Outside the European season, from August through to April, we source Grade A1 white peonies from specialist growers in Chile and New Zealand — southern hemisphere supply chains that allow us to maintain year-round availability at premium quality. They will open beautifully over 2 to 5 days at room temperature, giving you a bouquet that evolves and improves as the days pass. Follow these steps for maximum vase life.
Remove all packaging immediately and cut each stem at a sharp 45-degree angle with a clean, sharp knife — not scissors, which crush the stem
Place immediately into a clean vase of fresh lukewarm water with the flower food sachet provided
Remove all leaves below the waterline to prevent bacterial growth
Position away from direct sunlight, radiators, draughts and fruit bowls
Change the water completely every two days and re-cut the stems each time
To slow the opening — move to a cool room or refrigerate overnight
To speed the opening — place in a warm, bright spot away from direct sun

Chinese emperors grew peonies in the imperial gardens for over 1,500 years. The flower was so prized that common people were forbidden to cultivate it. Poets wrote about it.
